Success Stories

Angel
Some good Samaritans had found along a two-track road on State land here in Michigan.    They said that the animal was weaving and staggering and could hardly stand up when they first noticed  her and she was such a mess that they thought it was a dying coyote.more...

Kenya
I received a call from a woman who said she feared the worst for some puppies in the area.   She said she was driving on a country road and saw a very skinny, malnourished German Shepherd chained to an old rickety dog house and she thought she saw a tiny puppy by her side, and she wasn’t sure if it was dead or alive as it wasn’t moving.more...

Mario and Precious
Mario and Precious ended up at our rescue within weeks of each other.   They both were very young and came with serious issues.    Mario had been horribly abused as a young puppy by a cruel and ignorant man, and Precious had been dumped in the middle of winter and had serious health issues.   She fought pneumonia, frostbite and chronic upper respiratory infections for a very long time.   more...

About Us

The Canine Connection has been in the business of saving dogs, officially, since 2003.  To date, we have rescued over 600 dogs, pups, and a handful of cats and kittens along the way!

Over the years, The Canine Connection has had many happy 'tails', along with some sad ones.  Check our site for photos and our success stories of happy adoptions.  Watch for updates and pictures of the dogs who are currently residing here.  Some of our resident dogs have medical and behavioral issues which make them unadoptable. These unadoptables remain here, through no fault of their own;  most of their problems were inflicted on them by neglectful and abusive humans. Some of these guys have been with us for 5 years!   We also have dogs that have been adopted and returned.  Alex, a large Pointer mix, was adopted 3 times and returned.  His behavior issues are very difficult for a normal family to deal with, but he is happy here and we provide a safe and secure environment for him.

Please check out the adoptable pets that are currently residing with us hoping for their forever homes.

In the beginning, we had no idea what would be required to take on “mankind’s rejects”.  The energy and patience it takes to heal neglected, abused, abandoned, and in some cases, tortured dogs is almost insurmountable.  It takes a strong constitution to deal with the ups and downs of rescue, let alone the financial burden of vet care, food, enrichment, and supplements.

Sadly, we are encountering a new challenge in supporting our rescue operation.  Due to the bankruptcy restructuring of a previous employer, we are now caught in the web of bureaucratic decisions.  The income we counted on from retirement funds, which supported The Canine Connection,  will cease as of January 1, 2010.

We are awaiting approval of our 501 c 3 application for nonprofit status and once we receive it, we will start fundraising efforts so we can continue to help those that can’t help themselves, present and future!

We have a good team who will be working on fundraisers for our rescue. We also will be conducting raffles and silent auction events through our website from time to time.  Please keep checking back for updates on upcoming fundraising events.

Saving dogs is our greatest passion at the Canine Connection, and we refuse to let a previous employer’s uncertain future be the demise of so many great dogs we have now and those we could be saving in the future!   Sadly, we can’t do it on our own much longer.  We need your help and so do a lot of great, deserving canines!!!!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
